first. someone should write news satire. second, more of the folks on the mag should actually try to write in the forums. third and most importantly, the front page should be a badge of esteem. it is stupid that it rotates because that proves that the site has lousy viewership and bad leadership. no marketing is happening.

sorry, but lets be honest. flashy new format does not an audience make.

Hi

I actually think the rotating front cover is a great idea. it means you migth read a story you hadnt actually come accross before, etc.

Plus, this is only our first issue of the new Cheers. Its a great start in my opinion. So, give us a break!

I agree
Partly, I agree with both of you - news satire is definately a good idea. Forums, they are a good idea too. As for the front page - then it really depends how you look at it. It definately gives more coverage to stories. And I think it's good. Usually, whatever publication to read, the front page could usually be replaced by some other story without any questions. So ... why not make a rotating front page? Of course, sometimes there are also this type of stories which shouldn't be rotating and I think in those cases also the cheers wouldn't have it rotating. But it can't be always like that. you can't expect a news bomb every week.

Bad leadership, no marketing...well, I'm not adequate enough to answer that. Of course, everything needs improvement, leadership and marketing...but if it's so bad...I really don't know.

Well, that's what I think anyway....

First: This should really be under the "Suggest Improvements" topic. ;)

Second: News satire was suggested in an earlier post. If you're not the same person suggesting it, then we'll chalk that up as TWO votes for more news satire and I'm sure someone will start working on fake news for future issues. Otherwise, The Onion is chock full of satire. LOL

Third: We try to do things differently around here in order to provide you a unique choice when doing your internet reading. So it follows that we'll try some new things from time to time. The rotating front page is actually an idea that a lot of the staffers like a lot. It brings more stories to the foreground and gives them a better chance at being read. It also provides a feeling whereas no story or author is more important or significant than any other. All our stories are important to us and showcased in such a manner. If more people stress a dislike for the idea I'm sure we'll change it.

Lastly: I agree that more staffers should participate in the forums. Maybe if more readers had things to say to us there's be more responses. Feel free to call us out in the other topics, discuss this week's articles, favorite authors, etc.

As for marketing and leadership...now you're starting to sound like a disgruntled staff member who is not only upset that his article hasn't rotated onto the front page, but is angry that more people aren't reading his work.

If you're just a regular guy wanting us to do well and you know a little something about marketing, I am certain there's a place for you on staff here if ya want the job!

Above all else, thanks for reading and taking the time to suggest a few improvements. As Gem said, this is only the first time out of the box with the new format so give it a little time to gel.

First, you're right, this should have been in the "suggest improvements" pile. :)

Second, the format of the magazine is really great. A big improvement! Very professional, overall. You guys did good work.

The front page rotating is catchy, but NO other internet site does that. They force their writers to prepare articles of the best calibre possible and then drive traffic to that specific page, to the top article.

It is catchy, it is different. But it is also terribly unprofessional.

I didn't mean to sound offensive and that last crack in my first post was... misdirected rage, LOL. The mag looks really great, gang. :) - The front page thing? HUMPH. I guess I'll live...

No offende taken. We're glad you chimed in with some comments. We're working on making this place fun, original, and entertaining. Comments from readers will surely help.

As for being unprofessional...well, that's kind of our thing, man. ;)

Personally, I think the front page should ALWAYS feature my articles, but I may be biased.
